Mrs. Phillips attended Florence State Teacher's College and, later, Howard College (now Samford University), where she received her degree. Her teaching career began in Blount County, where she taught in Altoona, Alabama. Mrs. Phillips started teaching at Mineral Springs School in 1946. She taught the third and fourth grades for one year before teaching the fifth and sixth grades for the next 30 years.

She loved teaching school and always had a special interest in each student and wanted to see each of them succeed.

Mrs. Phillips was a loving wife and mother as well as a devoted school teacher.
